Meeting weekly - sometime twice a week - for almost 30 months, the commission worked tirelessly researching, drafting, and revising the proposed law. Members participated in literally hundreds of meetings including tutorials with experts in everything from forestry to land use law, late-night work sessions with the Town's zoning consultants from the Chazen Company, and a series of well-attended public hearings and workshops.

The Town owes a tremendous debt of gratitude to each of the seven volunteers who served on the commission: Roy Carney, Hilary Ferrone, Cathy Grier, Steve Langer, Abi Mesick, Connie Mondel, and John Spitzer. Thank you for your dedication and hard work.

The Town Board will now take up the work of reviewing the proposed law and begin the series of legal steps that are required prior to the final vote on adopting the Town's first zoning law. These include a legal review, an analysis of the environmental impact of the proposed law, and at least one public hearing.

The public hearing on the final draft of the zoning law was held on Saturday, May 17, 2008. This meeting was well-attended by citizens of the Town. Thirty-seven comments were recorded at the meeting and dozens more have been received via e-mail.

The Zoning Commission carefully reviewed and weighed all of the comments received resulting in numerous changes in the law that was ultimately proposed.

All citizens of the Town are encouraged to read and carefully consider the proposed law and continue to participate in the process of creating a law that will protect and preserve the many special features of our Town.
